Our Purpose - In the Big Big World

Have you ever thought there has to be something more to life? That waking up going to work, getting home for dinner, getting to bed, and repeating it all over the next day can't be all there is to life.

Have you ever thought there has to be something more to life? That waking up going to work, getting home for dinner, getting to bed, and repeating it all over the next day can't be all there is to life. We go to church, have small groups, and share our faith with friends and family. We give to the church and to missionaries as they spread the good news of Christ. We listen to reports about how people are being persecuted for their belief in Christ. So what is our purpose, how can we make a difference?

The Great Commission

  • Matthew 28: 16 - 20
    • Go and make disciples of all nations
    • So what is our purpose?
    • If that is our purpose, then what are we doing to move that forward?

I am the way, the truth, and the life

  • John 14: 1 - 6
    • Why do we need to go through out all of the world?
    • What about the secluded group of poeple that has never heard about Christ, what happens to them if we don't go to them?
    • If not hearing about Christ meant you could get to heaven, then the best things we could do is not share our faith with anyone.

Timely is the arrival of those who proclaim the good news

  • Romans 10: 11 - 15
    • Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
    • How do they hear?
      • By those that proclaim the good news
    • Is hearing the news good enough?
      • Lord, who has believed our report?
        • Only God knows the heart of man

All the world

So how do I do this?

  • Luke 24: 45 - 47
    • Luke wrote things in more detail to be precise in his writings.
    • It is interesting that he ended that by saying to start in Jerusalem.
    • Start where you are, with family, friends, co-workers, and spread out from there.

Sometimes we get caught up with daily life, and we lose the perspective of the big picture. We forget that we have a world to reach for Christ, and that is our one true calling. The How and What is driven by our Why. The How and What is our purpose and place in the body. We the capital C Church is to reach the world. If we do nothing, then our enemy has already won, but if we take a stand for Him, His purpose will be done through us.
