Peter - The Rock

On this rock I will build my Church. What an amazing and overwhelming comment for Jesus to make to Peter. I am sure we all have had someone we look up too give us vision of something great we could achieve.

On this rock I will build my Church. What an amazing and overwhelming comment for Jesus to make to Peter. I am sure we all have had someone we look up too give us vision of something great we could achieve. Something that may have caused us to question if it was possible. Yet at the same time, filling us with energy to actually go out and try to achieve it. As we look into Peter as the early Church stated, let's look at how Peter stepped into his calling.

Pentecost

  • This festival came 50 days after the Passover (when Jesus was crucified) (covered in Acts 2: 14 - 41)
  • Acts 2: 38 - 41
    • On this rock I will build my Church
      • Does Peter's message sound like a message you would expect from the person that was to build God's Church?
      • Does this sound like the Peter (Simon) the fisherman when he was called?

Healing

  • Acts 3: 4 - 8
    • What is Peter doing here? What stands out to you?
      • Pulling pages straight out of the master's book
      • Loving and compassion
      • Faith building through action
  • Acts 9: 32 - 43

The clean and unclean

Still human

  • Galations 2: 11 - 21
    • This sounds a little like Peter
    • It also sounds a little too familiar and hits close to home
    • Have you ever said or done something that you felt was wrong but did it anyways because who you were around?
    • Have you ever been the person to confront someone that actually did wrong?

God has a purpose for us all, and it is up to us to step into that calling. Peter stepped into his calling and did what Jesus asked him to do which was to simply follow him. Do the things that I did, walk in the path that I walked, speak the words I give you, and live the life that I lived. We usually always try to over complicate things most of the time. Maybe this is why Jesus reminded Peter, and in the same manner is reminding us to simply follow him.
