Powerful Words 3
"Sticks and Stones will break my bones, but Words will never hurt me." When we were young this statement most likely came up. However, we know that the tongue can cut like a sword. We have the power to speak life or death into those around us.
"Sticks and Stones will break my bones, but Words will never hurt me." When we were young this statement most likely came up. However, we know that the tongue can cut like a sword. We have the power to speak life or death into those around us. The words we think influence us sometimes more than the words of others. Words from great leaders have changed or shaped our futures, and the Living Word of God changes us for eternity.
What words are you listening too? Are you listening to voices from others? Are they building you up and growing you closer to God? Maybe you are listening more to yourself. Often things we say to and about ourselves cause us to go down a direction that God did not intend. Maybe it's time for us all to start seeking God and the words he has for us.
Before my mom passed, she left behind a list of what she called Powerful Words. I wanted to share these with you as you search for your words. Each of these words also had scripture that she selected to be read with them. I hope these may bless you as they did me.
The Darkest word is sin
- Isaiah 59:1 - 2
- As Christ died for us on the Cross and bore our sins. It was a profound moment as Jesus asked His Father why He had forsaken Him. Can you imagine the darkness of sin and it's weight that caused this to occur.
The Meanest word is hypocrisy
- Matthew 7:5
- We can often be very mean and cruel to one another. I know that I have for one said things to another trying to help, but later realize how mean it was and that I was actually talking more to myself and not them. Moments that I wish I could do over again. When we help each other, let us examine our motives. We should always seek God first to remove our own logs before offering to help another.
The most Honest word is truth
- John 8:32
- Have you ever been captive of a lie. In a place where you felt powerless and even ashamed. Maybe it was something someone else has said to you or about you. Maybe it is something that you yourself have fooled your mind into thinking. If we let lies become our focus we lose sight on what God wants us to see an know. We should let God and his spirit speak truth into us.
I would love you all to pray and seek God for your one word this year. I would also like you all to think about those negative and sinful things that you or others think or say about you.
